Hurley Write, Inc., Adds Online Writing Classes

Hurley Write, Inc., a company that specializes in developing and teaching customized onsite writing courses, is now offering a six-week online course in scientific writing and a four-week course in technical writing.

Both classes feature a voiced lecture, downloadable supplement that further explains the concepts discussed in the lectures, and three weekly writing options.

According to Pam Hurley, PhD, the company’s founder, “The writing options allow participants to apply the concepts they’ve learned in the class, submit them to us, and get valuable feedback on their writing. This allows writers to get a better understanding how they can improve on their writing. People really seem to like that option, and feel that that’s part of what separates us from our competition.”

The six-week scientific course focuses on such concepts as audience and purpose analysis, effective language use, argument building, the components of scientific reports, how readers read, and editing and proofreading strategies.

The four-week basics of technical writing course covers rhetorical theory and its role in technical writing; ensuring a clear, concise message; using the writing process effectively; and editing and proofreading basics.

Hurley Write’s onsite writing classes cover such topics as writing effective emails, writing useful reports, writing standard operating procedures, writing assessments, and writing user manuals. The firm also offers basic, or “cornerstone” classes in writing fundamentals, language use, organizational strategies, and editing and proofreading.
